Kalk Bay Foods

Kalk Bay Foods was established in 2003 as an off shoot of the well established spice company, Cape Herb and Spice. While grocery trends dominate the spice industry, a gap in the market was discovered for an innovative, creative and gourmet take on spices. This inspired the idea of fine food gifting which incorporates current food trends, cutting edge design and creative packaging to produce luxury gifting sets which Kalk Bay Foods now pioneers.

In addition, Kalk Bay Foods also offers and exports select gourmet grocery ranges from South Africa’s most innovative small producers, from preserves and chilli pastes, to exotic spices and oils. Only suppliers with a real passion for their product are selected.

Keeping abreast with current food trends has allowed Kalk Bay Foods to further develop their own grocery brands. These range from exotic salts, fine tea products, innovative spice grinders to naughty chilli sauces and more.

The Kalk Bay Foods range has developed into an all encompassing fine food experience. The gifting and grocery ideas consist of a variety of styles to suit all tastes.

2009 saw the emergence of a new brand developed under the now growing Kalk Bay foods umbrella, eat.art.

The eat.art brand is vibrant and sophisticated, offering a range of gifting sets with a variety of packaging options to suit all budgets. This reaches the middle market with affordable luxury and high end market with quintessential luxury.

Kalk Bay foods is also focussed on giving back to the community and all products packed by hand giving much-needed employment to the local community. It further provides flexibility to clients who may require products to be customised, from labelling in a different language to designing an entirely new product. Kalk Bay Foods strives to achieve a level of personalised service for highly successful customer relations.

The Kalk Bay Foods team, headed by Shelley Barnard and Irene Ivy-Schuurmans, is proud to offer their products in 9 different countries at present with more to come.

About Kalk Bay

Foods and SpicesKalk Bay is an inspiration to the Kalk Bay foods company. As part of an arterial that stretches from the CBD to Cape Point, Kalk Bay adds a capricious dimension to a motorway that undergoes many mood swings en route to its destination. Sandwiched between stately St James and the bland sobriety of Fishoek, is a kaleidoscope of quaint antique shops, art galleries, and quirky restaurants.

Foods and SpicesOn weekends a lively horde of citizens from every walk of life, converge on this narrow stretch of festivity to soak up the unique atmosphere. And creating a backdrop is the wellspring of this colourful community, the Kalk Bay Harbour, a picture postcard anchorage where the fishing folk, with roots stretching back into history, live, work and play. Arrive at the right time and you'll be able to buy your fish on the quayside, and get it cleaned and scaled by the skilled ladies who have been practising their craft for generations.
